Southfield, MI – Clergy and congregation members in Southfield are inviting the community to a service of prayer and reconciliation on Wednesday, November 26, at 6:30pm, at Hope United Methodist Church, where Rev. Cornelius Davis, Jr. is the pastor, 26275 Northwestern Highway, Southfield, MI. We will pray for peace and reconciliation following developments in Ferguson, Missouri.

“We stand beside our brothers and sisters in Ferguson who desire healing and restoration in their communities – and who also realize that their tensions raise wider conversation issues for the people of our nation,” said co-organizer Rev. Kimi Riegel of Northwest Unitarian Universalist Church and Lift Up Southfield!  “The continued unrest in Ferguson, Missouri has revealed an abscess of racial tension in the underbelly of our nation,” added co-organizer Fr. Chris Yaw of St. David's Episcopal Church and Lift Up Southfield! “This calls for prayer, self-examination, and a determined effort to reconciliation.”

“As people of faith we realize that prayer and conversation is a positive response. We stand together with the people of Ferguson in our shared desire to bring peace and harmony to this division,” added pastor Rev. Cornelius Davis, Jr. of Hope United Methodist.

The prayer service will take place in the main sanctuary of the church, childcare is provided. Participating Southfield congregations include St. David's Episcopal Church, Northwest Unitarian Universalist Church, Hope United Methodist Church, First Baptist Church of Detroit, Peace Lutheran Church, Church of the Transfiguration Catholic Church, Immanuel Lutheran Church, and Covenant Presbyterian Church.
